About

Saxappeal

Saxappeal’s mission is to rekindle the flame between people and music; which is, unfortunately, flickering dim. His hopes are to touch people through his music, in ways they’ve yet to be touched. With focus, determination, positive energy, love, and a passion deeper than anything he can explain, he uses his horn to tell stories, state his opinions, and celebrate the gift of music through love.

Saxappeal: The name itself brings a new image to the music arena. The young saxophonist, born and raised in Detroit, has been playing since the age of 7. In fact, this young bird, barely able to stand on his own two feet, let alone fly solo, was pushed out of the nest (musically speaking), after a mere 6 months of playing his horn. Now, the extraordinary 36-year-old musician brings anxiety, joy, love, pain, passion, and so many more sensations to the stage while performing. Comfortably known as ‘Sax’, he has scoped out his flying territory and has set his sights high.

Saxappeal recently released his 3rd solo project, entitled “Black Gold”, which peaked at #4 on the iTunes Top 100 Jazz Charts, and has surpassed 100,000 streams on Spotify in it’s first 7 weeks of being released.

Saxophonist/educator/producer/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Saxappeal continues to build his brand, as well as his style of music. As a co-founder of Jazz/Soul/R&B group Collective Peace, Saxappeal created compositions and arrangements of a high-energy live performance, as well as a critically acclaimed project entitled, “Introducing Collective Peace.” The album received the following accolades:

•”Introducing Collective Peace” peaked at #13 on the iTunes top 100 Jazz Chart with our first single, “Let The Music Play.”
•album (“Introducing Collective Peace”) peaked to #6 on iTunes Jazz Top Albums.
•album (“Introducing Collective Peace”) became the #1 Jazz album on Google Play for two consecutive weeks.
•received many top ratings from music sites and taste-makers, including Soul Train, Soul Bounce, BBC, Dusty Grooves, WDET’s Chris Campbell, and many many more.
•album received tons of spins overseas, in London, Amsterdam, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, and more.
•signed digital distribution deals with Bling Univercity, Evry Music, Sweet Soul Records, Urban Union, Expansion Records, Tower Records, Sound Signature, and more.

The group has disbanded as of late 2017.

Now a Grammy nominated recording artist, the 2020 Vote For The Best; Jazz/Blues Award recipient, a 2014 Detroit Music Award nominee for entertainer of the year, and a 2013 Crain’s Detroit Business “20 in their 20’s” Award recipient, Michigan Chronicle’s “40 under 40” Award recipient, and a “Who’s Who in Black Detroit” Award recipient, this ambitious young artist has traveled from coast to coast, performing from intimate venues in Detroit, to sold out arenas in Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Aruba, Dallas, Minnesota, Atlanta, New York, and Europe, just to name a few.

His first trip to New
York was to perform at the legendary Carnegie Hall at the age of 17.
Saxappeal has also been performing with Granny Award winning
artist, Dwele (also a Detroit native musician/singer/songwriter) since 2005. Saxappeal has also toured with R&B vocalist, K’Jon, France born duo Les Nubians, R&B legend Leon Ware, London’s own powerhouse duo Floetry, Grammy nominated Indie-Soul artist, Eric Roberson, currently touring with keyboardist/producer Zo!, and Carmen Rodgers (of The Foreign Exchange), and is also currently touring with Charlie Wilson (11 time Grammy nominated vocalist, and former lead singer of The GAP Band), who’s opening for Bruno Mars’ XXIVk (24 karat) Magic Tour.

Saxappeal is also endorsed by PJLA Music’s saxophone company, Sax Dakota (www.SaxDakota.com), Danté Neck Straps (www.dantestraps.com), Be Wooden Bow Ties (www.BeWooden.com), Harry Hartmann’s Fiberreeds
(www.Fiberreeds.com) Drake Mouthpieces. (www.drakemouthpieces.com), Applied Music Technology Microphones (http://www.appliedmicrophone.com) Gard Bags (www.gardbags.com), Silverstein Ligatures (http://www.silversteinworks.com), and Ultimate Ears (www.ultimateears.com). In efforts to form his own style,
which he calls ‘SaxSoul’, Saxappeal’s music is diverse with a blend of
jazz, hip-hop, soul, and R & B. This young artist has truly been
humbled by his opportunities and eagerly awaits more.
