About

Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers

Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers will make a sprightly young groove doctor out of anyone. With spectacular energy pulsating from every member of the band, the Rainbow Seekers could illuminate the very chambers of Heaven. Lead singer and Amish excommunicate Joe Hertler splashes through lyrical puddles of golden rain, leaving his audience wearing flowery headdresses and bubbling smiles. A ride on the Rainbow will take you across the mountains of Motown, through the fjords of folk, over the archipelagos of Americana, and—at last—into a funky firth, where only the fiercest of friendships can be found.

The Rainbow Seekers began their quest beneath the fingertips of songwriter Joe Hertler. Bassist and producer Kevin Pritchard, recently thawed from an extremely rare prehistoric groove glacier, discovered the forlorn Hertler in a twinkling, mysteriously fortuitous place called The Quilted Attic. Alongside legendary glacier-hunter Rick Hale—who would later spend decades forging a drumset from pure, white-hot, ancient stardust to mark the occasion—Pritchard changed the world: He wrangled Hertler into musical collaboration. And the lonely little songsmith, it turned out, was not quite as alone as he seemed: With him came the irresistibly sexy blues guitar prodigy who is now known to the world as Ryan Hoger.

The core of the Rainbow was thereby established, and it didn’t take long for the Rainbow Seekers to continue their expansion. Multi-instrumentalist and notable auxiliary percussion maestro Micah Bracken journeyed from the bowels of Atlantis when he heard tell of the Rainbow, and the earth trembled as saxophonist and all-around bad ass Aaron Stinson descended from Olympus on a golden rainbow of his own. Then came Stinson’s little-known winged companion from the Far East, the debonair violist Joshua Barber Holcomb—When he saw the pure, unadulterated joy the Rainbow Seekers sprinkled on every crowd they happened upon, he had no choice but to join them on their quest.

As you’ll know if you’ve seen the band, seeking the proverbial Rainbow is all about the live performance. “The live show is the purpose of the band. This is why we make music. Playing music is a symbiotic process, and without a crowd it is just a bunch of guys jamming,” says Hertler. “We believe that performance is not a High Art operation, and that you should do anything you can to ensure that the crowd is having a good time. From piñatas to confetti, to fog, to flowers, to drum solos, to strobe lights, to Thor, to sword battles—literally anything goes.”

If you’re still reading this, at least one thing is true: The Rainbow Seekers have been waiting for you. If you’ll only let them, they will shake the dust from your wildest expectations. They will roar into your life with rapturous frequencies, exuberant tone, and a joyfulness of purpose that has truly become a rare sight on stage. Join them in their celebration, and they will take you on a never-ending journey to a place you’ll never be able to describe in words.

Old Shoe

Old Shoe

About

Old Shoe is a five-piece Roots Rock n’ Roll band based out of Chicago, Illinois. Made up of talented songwriters from across the country, hailing from as far away as Alaska, the band’s compositions paint a diverse landscape of American life.

The band’s new album Family is not merely another notch in the belt for Old Shoe, but is more so a poignant culmination of their growth and progress since the last release in 2011. WXRT 93.1FM Chicago radio host, Richard Milne, calls it “…a big time album.” In just a little over two years, Old Shoe solidified their strong lineup with keyboardist/mandolinist/vocalist Joe Day and drummer Greg Fundis, rounded the Midwest festival circuit at high-profile events like Summer Camp and Wakarusa, opened for Grammy-award winning Bruce Hornsby, and even produced 4 consecutive installments of their own festival, Shoe Fest.

The all-original 13-track release showcases the band’s diverse influences, ranging from bluegrass to prog-rock to jazz, with it all settling into a familiar comfort zone akin to one’s favorite “old shoe.” The album reaches new heights from previous releases with a star-studded guest roster featuring musicians from the Henhouse Prowlers, The Low Down Brass Band, and Chicago’s production of The Jungle Book.

John Kadlecik

John Kadlecik

About

Born on June 28, 1969 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, John Kadlecik grew up in various mid-western towns and at the age of nine, John began to study classical violin. In high school in the Chicago suburbs, John caught the rock-n-roll bug, and, on a quest to understand improvisation, began teaching himself guitar and mandolin. While still in high school, John played in several bands, as well as writing songs and learning the basics of multi-track recording.

John attended college as a music major, studying classical guitar, during which time he discovered the Grateful Dead. He fell in love with their music instantly, dropped out of college, and began playing anywhere an underage musician could find a gig. Chicago would be where he called home for the next fifteen years, playing in various original and cover bands.

In 1997 John co-founded the group, Dark Star Orchestra, a group exclusively devoted to playing the music of the Grateful Dead. Originally started as a side-project, “DSO” rapidly became a nationally touring band. During that time, John also found time for other musical projects including forming a group with Jerry Garcia Band keyboardist Melvin Seals. That group, called The Mix, went on to sign a recording contract and released a full length CD in 2004 titled: American Spring.

Then in 2009, John was asked by Phil Lesh and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead to join them in a new band called Furthur, which toured for four years, playing many of the celebrated great venues of the United States, including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Radio City Music Hall, and Madison Square Garden before disbanding in 2014.

Currently residing in Washington, DC, John continues to perform with Phil Lesh and Friends, as well as the DC Mystery Cats and the John Kadlecik Band.

The New Old Cavalry offers today’s concert-goer an opportunity to take two steps back into the past and one large step into the future. We seek to turn every stage we play on into an event where sounds of varying backgrounds can intermingle and transform into a heart-felt, and unapologetically dynamic mash-up of hard-driving bluegrass, gospel-inspired harmonies, and psychedelic looseness. Its New, Its Old, its the Cavalry and we intend to take your foot-stompin’ and whiskey swiggin’ past the astral zone!

In a few short months, The New Old Cavalry has grown from a close-knit group of porch-jam regulars to rubbing elbows with bluegrass heavy-weights like Hot Buttered Rum, Cornmeal, Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, Devil’s Train, Bonepony, and more. We’ve recorded an EP and keep churning out original numbers, an anticipate our first full length album by the end of 1/2010.

Our music extends no further then all of the support we’ve received from our friends and rapidly growing family. We would not be here if it were not for all of you who open your homes to bluegrass jams at all hours of the night, amateur photographers, word-of-mouth promoters, street team, and all those who spread the word to friends.

If you’ve sat on a porch with us, you are part of the Cavalry too! If you’ve got an instrument, please play along. If you’ve got a song you want to sing, call the tune! If you want a party, we’d love to play at it.

onwards and upwards!

Miles Over Mountains is an acoustic Bluegrass / Roots / Americana band based in McHenry, IL. Their musical styles range from bluegrass, to reggae, to punk, and beyond, all delivered in a “not-so-traditional” bluegrass voice. Their live shows are high energy, centered around their arsenal of original material and refreshing variety of cover songs interpreted in their own way.
In just their first year as a band, Miles Over Mountains continue to turn heads across the Midwest. In 2014 they’ve performed almost a hundred shows at bars, clubs and festivals. Besides playing notable Chicago venues such as Cubby Bear, Martyr’s, Tonic Room and others, the band also held a weekly residency show at the Abbey Pub from May until October carrying on the longstanding local tradition of Bluegrass Tuesdays in the city. The 2014 festival season saw M.O.M. performing at such fests as Shoe Fest, Down On The Farm, Blottopia, Summer Stomp and more, and sharing the bill with The Wood Brothers, Split Lip Rayfield, Ben Miller Band and a host of national and regional acts.

Collectively with decades of stage experience under their belts, M.O.M. strives to provide the audience with a fun and freeing experience at each show with unique sets every time. The band is currently at work on their debut album due out in early 2015
